
About Us
Chef Johnny Hernandez has come a long way from his days of peeling potatoes, in his father's kitchen of the family's Westside restaurant, Johnny's Cafeteria. Hernandez founded True Flavors Catering in 1994, and the company has proven itself time and again handling everything from weddings and private parties to corporate events for over 1,500.
Recognized repeatedly for culinary excellence, the San Antonio Restaurant Association named True Flavors its Restaurateur of the Year. The National Association of Catering Executives has named the company Caterer of the Year for multiple years.
Hernandez is one of four chefs in San Antonio selected to serve on the Latin Foods Advisory Board of the Culinary Institute of America - San Antonio, and he also serves on the alumni council for the CIA nationally.
Growing the Business and Building a Legacy
He also is embarking on even more bold moves to further establish True Flavors as San Antonio's premier catering company. Johnny's sibling partners - Leticia and Mark Hernandez – are expanding the catering business, while Chef Johnny is focusing his passion for cuisine on a few new business ventures, in addition to his current contract at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center - La Gloria Ice House, featuring authentic street foods of Mexico was voted Best New Restaurant 2010 by the Express News at the Pearl Brewery; Market Depot, the first café style restaurant at Port San Antonio, opening in the Fall of 2010; Mesalegre, a Chef's Table at the Pearl Brewery development, showcasing the best of the Farmer's Market; and Johnny's Market, a deli-style, chef prepared meals and bakery opening in the Spring of 2012, also will have a limited breakfast, lunch and evening menu.
